Eat this, you'll feel better. A thought on the current darkness and the healing power of chocolate.
With all the "non essential" businesses closing to the public and only offering online orders or curb side pick up (myself included) the reality of Covid-19 is becoming more and more real by the day.
I would like to take a minute to express that where as I understand their use of the terminology "non essential" businesses, I loathe the term. It's an unforgiving blanket terminology given to businesses that undermines their importance or just how essential they are to their owners and employees. But I digress.
However if there's one thing I know, it's that even in the darkest days, chocolate still tastes like happiness.
As many of you may know chocolate pulled me through some of the hardest and darkest days of my life. It offered me a distraction, a grounded new normal to build my life off of. It was exactly what I needed at the very point in my life when I needed it most, and it's been my mission from the start to share that with you.
So to quote the late great Remus Lupin, who without hesitation offered Harry Potter a bar of chocolate to ward off the effects of a dementor attack, "Eat this, you'll feel better." It's hard to argue with the man who could arguably be called the greatest defense against the dark arts teacher Hogwarts ever had, huh? (And if you need even more credibility given to his statement, even Madam Pomfrey seconded the cocoa prescription.)
So as you can see, even according to the world of Harry Potter chocolate is a practical answer to even the worst of fates. (I'd say spending two weeks at home is nothing compared to getting your soul sucked out, but hey what do I know?)
I'm sure there's a lot of science to back me up on this and I could use all that talk about chemical reactions to further my argument that chocolate is essential in most situations, but I'ma just throw a link in that you can follow if you wanna go down that Bill Nye rabbit hole.
I'm just here to suggest, that maybe we could all benefit from turning off the news and stop reading those depressing statistics, and just enjoy some chocolate with your favorite people. (Or whomever you're quarantined with.)
After all, our white chocolate happy pills are the perfect moments reprieve (whether your hiding from your kids in the bathroom or just simply need a little cocoa escape.) And our signature bars are big enough to share with a gathering of no more than 10 people per CDC guidelines.
So until the doors reopen, stay safe, stay healthy, and don't lose spirit! This too shall pass.
Signing off until next time,
Ronnie

You have a gift, well many, but I’m talking about your writing. It is a talent you should pursue. 😉
